Locmaria Beach

The second biggest village of the island, located south of the island, has its own harbor in a small bay, lined by a nice long stretch of thin sand. Protected by the cove and by the seawall, the Locmaria beach is rarely subject to waves, which makes it a perfect place for families. What’s more, the nearby parking lot makes it easy for families who come with their cars, filled with beach toys!

I would recommend going to the Locmaria beach at rising or high tide: as the sea withdraws quite far during low tide, the sand has time to heat up a little in the summertime, which ensures one of the best water temperatures on the island. The bay also prevents the colder currents to come in. You may want to equip the younger ones with plastic shoes as the seabed can be covered in rocks and algae depending on the tide.

People enjoy it at low tide to go shell fishing, but the mud sometimes has a strong smell.

If you like kayaks and stand up paddles, this is the place to go rent them! During this time the kids will probably enjoy spending time at the beach club, jumping on the trampoline and playing all kinds of games (in the summertime only).
